You've Got... AOL? Really?

When I first heard that West Virginia had a high percentage of users still subscribe to AOL as the source of their e-mail, I was almost shocked. I didn't think that AOL was still a presence in the virtual world, let alone a preference for e-mail subscribers. As a child who grew up in the 90's, I remember the insane popularity AOL once had. However, over the years with Yahoo and Comcast taking its place, I didn't think it was still relevant.

I'm not one to assume anything so I have no idea why AOL has the popularity that it does within the confines of West Virginia. It could be that AOL provides services the state is looking for. With West Virginia being so mountainous, perhaps AOL provides the best signal. Or, perhaps West Virginia chooses to stand by the old addage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", meaning why change with the times if what they have works perfectly fine.

I don't think it affects anything technology wise as there are still 49 other states who think differently and may use more current providers. I also don't think it sets us back in the way of technology. It is simply just a matter of preference. It is still 2014 and there are plenty of new pieces of technology to worry about.

However, if Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks pop up on my TV screen in the next five minutes, there may be cause for concern.
